I'm struck by the colors of everyday life. I take sketches of people or everyday objects and arrange them into simple compositions. I then begin a process of breaking down the subject into blocks of vivid yet nuanced color with striking contrast. Whether I'm depicting a person or a bottle of ketchup, I enjoy dissecting the colors and playing with luscious paint, using a brush, palette knife, or even smearing with my fingers. The final strokes of a successful painting hold the most excitement as I achieve my visual goal, interpreting colors and subjects with expression and energy.
I studied fine art, illustration and graphic design at Florissant Valley Community College, in St. Louis. Then as a graphic designer for many years I used my fine art skills, continuing to sketch and paint daily and I took many classes and workshops along the way and taught drawing and painting classes as well.
Currently my work is shown by Green Door Art Gallery in Webster Groves, MO and at OA Gallery in Kirkwood, MO. I am a partner in Artgroup 360 which organizes and promotes art exhibits in the Midwest.
In the past I've partnered in artist co-ops: Augusta Haus Art Gallery, Augusta, MO, and Gateway Gallery, Clayton, MO. I was a studio artist at The Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles, MO for two years.
